History of Kessel
Kessel originated in the early Middle Ages, around a watchtower. In the 11th century, Kessel became the seat of the County of Kessel, which extended over present-day North Limburg, and the Counts of Kessel resided in the ‘donjon’ and the later castle on the fortress.
